I have been working on some totes - and I think I will actually take the next step and open an Etsy site and try to sell them. So, I need to get some feedback - if you happen onto this blog and would care to comment, please do. I'll add a few more later.

Thanks.

Flying Saucers

Remember cafeteria cookies? These were very popular in the Los Angeles schools when I was growing up. This recipe is nice because it includes a vegan option, although I've only made the regular version.

1 c. butter
1 c. sugar
1 c. brown sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 tsp. soda
1 tsp. vanilla
2 c.oatmeal
2 c. cornflakes
1/2 c. coconut
1/2 c. walnuts, chopped

Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy. Beat in eggs. Sift flour, baking
powder, salt, and soda. Blend into creamed mixture. Add remaining ingredients.
Mix until blended. Drop dough by 2 1/2 T. onto ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten
to 4” diameter. Bake at 350 degrees 10-12 minutes. Makes about 22 large cookies.
For smaller cookies, use rounded teaspoons and do not flatten. Bake at 375 degrees
for 8-10 minutes. Makes about 6 dozen.

Vegan cookies - substitute soy butter, Sucanet, egg substitute, and whole wheat flour.
Vegan icing - Mori-mi Mates tofu pudding mix, mixed with soy milk and soy butter.

drawing

One of our grandchildren came to visit this past weekend. She is just 4 and her name is Evie. She is a great talker, and loves to draw "things". Watching her draw is interesting. This "person" is one of her efforts - when drawing on the right, she uses her right hand. On the left, the left hand. And she will tell you about it every step of the way.

We also went to Disneyland (her first visit). Still a bit young, I guess. She absolutely did NOT like any of the characters with masks (Mickey, Minnie, etc) - she is deathly afraid of people with covered faces. In costume otherwise is fine. But she loved the Dumbo ride, the teacups, Storybook Land etc. Unfortunately Small World was closed. But I think, overall, it was a success. We have two other grandchildren (8 and 5) who have been going since they were babies - nothing phases them - they love it all.

Enough

That's my instruction to myself. Enough being down - time to look forward.
We, my husband and I, are planning a trip in October - we're going to visit Athens, and then take a cruise up the Adriatic coast, finishing in Zagreb, Croatia. It will be a little chilly (we finish in November) but should be fun. We were in Italy, 40 years ago. But this will be new. I hope to bring home small handcrafts from each of the places we visit. And take tons of photos (the best souvenir.
I am working on some projects of my own - hope to post some samples soon. Kind of a way to keep track of my progress since I tend to do something and then give it away without really keeping a record of any kind.
Enough - watching PBS - That's Amore (Italian American singers). It's fun.

My take
